To out knowledge, the origin of family Spiess is coming from Hergiswil bei Willisau.

Upon the formation of the Swiss Confederation in 1291, it was made customary for the citizens to register their family names with the birthplace. In the year 1417 Willisau district was bought by the canton of Lucerne. Since that time Hergiswil is considered the hometown of the family Spiess.
