The first mention of Hergiswil goes back to 1217.

In the middle ages the village Hergiswil belonged to the district Willisau.

In 1515 the village had just 18 families. Interestingly, in this small village there were two castle-like constructions.

One of them was located on the hill Budmiger and the other one on Seeblen.
